250 billion sets of paper drink containers consumed worldwide in a year
It has now become a social issue. We need to drastically reduce waste!
One "disposable paper cup sleeve" weighs 5 grams. But as the Japanese proverb goes, even a little bit of dust makes a mountain. Every year, 1.25 million tons. This figure is the weight of "disposable paper cup sleeves" consumed in a year. This weight is equivalent to 5,555 Statue of Liberty in New York. This is the annual consumption.
20 million trees are cut down every year to make 250 billion paper drink containers.
Amukaishi's Proposal
So let's update the other half of the container, the cup sleeve, to a reusable "My Cup Sleeve" and move forward in this era!

Amukaishi has invented the "Cup Sleeve" which creates new value.
Welcome to the world of the reusable edition "Amukaishi"!
Inspired by Japanese etiquette, which has more than 1,000 years of history, we propose fun "shin etiquette" for takeout food and drinks to the world.
The veil of secrecy will be lifted in June. Don't miss the moment that will captivate your eyes!
A new era of "cup sleeves" begins.
Social issue: 600 billion sets of drink containers (250 billion of which are paper containers for hot drinks) are wasted every year. How can we reduce this volume?
If everyone brought their own "My Tumbler", that would be a 100% solution, right? But the reality is... in our everyday lives...
This year in the United States, the trend of carrying around "My Tumbler" made by Stanley or YETI has become very popular. However, according to a survey, only about 15% of people bring their own tumblers to cafes and other places.
In fact, major cafes have been running campaigns for over 10 years that give points back to customers who bring their own tumblers, but there has been no dramatic change in this ratio.
(An acquaintance of mine in Austin, Texas, brings four tumblers to work. His pre-work routine is to brew his favorite tea, coffee, and water in his tumblers at home.)
There are also disadvantages to abolishing disposable cups! How can we achieve a waste-free diet while protecting everyone's hygiene?
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the risk of infection from "bringing your own tumbler." Even though the pandemic is over and things have calmed down, Starbucks in the United States has adopted a system where customers do not touch their tumblers (store staff do not even wash the tumblers they receive). This is a "devise" to minimize the burden on store staff and the risk of secondary infection for staff and customers.
As things stand, there are significant disadvantages to society in abolishing disposable cups.
What is needed now is "ingenuity" that allows people in different positions to enjoy takeout coffee with peace of mind, without increasing burdens or risks, while still contributing to the circular economy.
(Paper cups have a long history, with mass production achieved in 1907 and they have become a global standard.)
Let's change our perspective! Let's lose weight by removing the other half of the drink container, the "disposable paper cup sleeve" that covers the cup! Amukaishi's proposal is to create a new habit of having a small "My Cup Sleeve" that is washable and clean like a handkerchief.
Disposable paper cup sleeves are thermally insulated covers for disposable cups. They were proposed by an American inventor in 1991. Taking advantage of the fact that they can be printed on because they are made of paper, disposable paper cup sleeves can add a unique look to your drink cup, and they quickly became the standard for take-out coffee.
Recently, "cup sleeves" have been proposed that use a "third material" other than "paper" to give the product a richer look. For example, typical third materials include "leather," "synthetic rubber," and "multi-layered fabric." However, most of these are "not recommended" for washing.
If we could replace disposable paper cup sleeves with reusable ones, the amount of waste could be significantly reduced.
The condition is that it must be washable.
By chance, the founder of Amukaishi invented a "universal cup sleeve that can be washed and set on various cups" for a ceramic artist's complicated-shaped cup in 2016. Thus, Amukaishi's proposal was born: a "reusable cup sleeve" that can be washed, kept clean, and can be set on all cups with "one".
(Another point of view: disposable paper cup sleeves have the advantage of being able to advertise "logos and messages" through printing. Unless a "new means" that can replace this appears, it cannot become a "means of the future" that replaces the demand for "disposable paper cup sleeves.")
Yes! My cup sleeve, "Amukaishi" "Circular Economy" that you can adopt now!
Amukaishi's reusable cup sleeves can be washed just like clothes, and can be folded compactly to keep in a bag or pocket. From this point of view, they are also an excellent circular item from the perspective of the circular economy. In addition, they are made using PET yarn, so they are recyclable. Because they are knitted from yarn, material waste is minimized.
On the other hand, "paper cup sleeves" are made by cutting fan-shaped paper material from a large roll of paper, so a large amount of waste is already generated during production.
Amukaishi cup sleeves can be washed and kept clean even if they get dirty during use, and can be used over and over again. In contrast, paper cup sleeves can only be used once, which only increases waste.
Amukaishi cup sleeves contribute to a circular economy and are a step towards realizing a sustainable future.
(The reproduction level (resolution) of Amukaishi designs is four times that of existing products (so to speak, 4K). It is comparable to "printing" on paper cup sleeves, and even surpasses "paper" due to its superior "touch", and has a strong ability to convey the intended design and message.)
Go to 2030
What we can do now
"One size fits all." With just one, it will "fit" any cup, anywhere, anytime.
Although Amukaishi's cup sleeves do not reach the "resolution of printing" on paper, they boast sufficient reproduction of logos and characters, including QR codes.
The key point is that knitted products have a unique luxurious feel and fashionable impression that cannot be achieved with paper products.
Amukaishi's reusable cup sleeves are considered to be a daily necessity like a handkerchief that can be washed and kept clean. Unlike other companies' products (which do not recommend washing), they are truly reusable items.
Perfect for promoting events, products, services and movies!
A powerful message transmission ability that can never be achieved through "online advertising" on smartphone screens

Recycling Support
The material is PET thread. It is one of the most recyclable materials on the planet. There is already a social infrastructure for recycling, and it is one of the materials with the highest recycling rate.
PET is one of the materials that does not transmit heat well.

30 years of cup sleeve history
The story of Amukaishi is about to begin
History always begins by chance
1991. A disposable paper cup sleeve, created by an individual inventor in Oregon, USA, became a coffee style.
Take-out. The process of creating the Grab and Go! cup.
Convenient. Delicious. Relaxing. Thanks to the "Cup Sleeve," which fits over a hot cup of coffee and keeps your hands just the right distance from the heat of the coffee.
In the 20th century, double cups (two layers) were a cool way to insulate things.
The 20th century brought another solution: the appearance of black plastic cup holders with a ring and handle to hold a white cup. They were bulky and too big to fit in a bag. They were disposable.
American Individual Inventor 1991
Sorensen invented the cup sleeve in 1991 after he was dropped off at a drive-through while taking his child to school and the paper cup he received was so hot that he ended up spilling the coffee.
American inventor starts business "Java Jacket"
He used to work from his home, driving around in the back seat of his car. Now, he has grown into a big business that has sold over 4 billion paper cup sleeves. It has become the standard style in the world of take-out coffee.
The world's annual consumption is 600 billion sets (of which 250 billion are paper containers).
Although consumption has declined during the COVID-19 pandemic, it will continue to grow.
Global cup sleeve market CAGR (compound annual growth rate) 4.8%
This figure tells us that it is predicted to grow at a higher rate than the global automobile market.
*Coffee beans are the world's second largest export item after oil.
20 million trees cut down
250 billion paper cups for hot drinks are consumed annually, which requires the felling of 20 million trees every year.
Reusable cup sleeves
An invention he invented for a friend who is a potter unexpectedly turned out to be useful in solving social issues in the post-COVID era. After a year of market research, he decided to commercialize it.
The name is Amukaishi (trademark application pending)
